The Popular online music streaming site, Spotify, has confirmed a breach of its systems and data.

It states that only one user’s data was accessed and this did not include password, financial or payment information, but it did not specify what information was accessed.

As a precaution, Spotify will be requesting that ‘certain users’ validate their username and password.

Spotify is also planning to release an update for its Android app in coming days. Users of Spotify on Android should apply this upgrade as soon as possible.

Stay Smart Online also encourages anyone with concerns about the security of their account to logon and change their password as a precaution. You should change your passwords for all of your online accounts regularly as a matter of good practice, choosing a strong and unique one each time.

Spotify has stated that Windows and iOS devices are not affected.

More information

Spotify has provided additional information and questions and answers in a blog post on its website, including advice on checking your version of Spotify on Android and how to change your password.

Stay Smart Online has more information on choosing appropriate passwords, as well as information about how hackers can crack weaker passwords.
