Microsoft has issued an out of schedule security advisory warning about a critical vulnerability affecting Word 2003, 2007, 2013, Word Viewer and Office for Mac 2011.

The vulnerability can be exploited if users open certain (RTF) files or possibly via previewing a malicious message in Outlook.

The vulnerability is known to be targeted by cyber criminals.

Microsoft is currently working on a patch for the issue, but has offered a temporary ‘Fix It’ solution that disables RTF from being opened by Word.
