More than 35 written submissions were received during the public submission and consultation process for the joint  ICT review between the department and the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

The consultation has now closed, but Chief Economist and head of the BCR, Dr Paul Paterson, has welcomed the input.

‘Robust data on communications technology is essential to assist policymakers, business, researchers and the community to make informed decisions’, he said.

The review is primarily focussing on:

  • identifying priority information requirements for ICT statistics
  • identifying gaps and examining options for improving the quality of data available to decision-makers
  • investigating the scope for non-traditional inputs and collection processes, and
  • reviewing the framework for measuring ICT and its contribution to the economy.

The review is expected to be completed in August with a report to the Australian Government.
