Help shape the quality and accessibility of the socio-economic data you use to make decisions affecting regional Australia.

How it works

Why we want your input
We know data is important for decision making and to promote information about regional Australia. This is your chance to shape a new data resource for regional communities, local leaders, industry and all levels of government.
How you can voice your opinion
We value your time and have provided a survey that will take around 20 minutes. Alternatively, you’re welcome to provide a response to the consultation paper.
What will be the outcome of this consultation?
Your input through the survey or consultation paper will inform the development of the Hub over the next three years.

The Regional Data Hub is part of the Australian Government's $13.7 million Better Data Use to Support Delivery for Regional Australians program announced in the 2020–21 budget. It will improve the evidence base for regional communities, local leaders, industry and all levels of government by bringing together key economic, demographic and socio-economic data to provide easy access to information about their regions.

We recognise many organisations and individuals make decisions that affect their local communities and therefore, we want to better understand how and why you use data. This consultation is an opportunity for you to tell us what data you need and how you prefer to access data. We will use the submissions and the survey results to determine the data priorities and design of the Hub.

Our regions are diverse, spanning sparsely populated remote communities to towns and large non metropolitan cities. The Regional Data Hub aims to help communities and those involved in policy design and service delivery to understand the state of the regions and identify future opportunities. The Hub will have high quality data at geographic scales suitable for regional decision makers.
