The Government has announced a review of the management of the .au domain to ensure it is fit for purpose in Australia’s modern digital landscape.

The .au domain is Australia’s top level domain code and is overseen by the not-for-profit .au Domain Administration (auDA).

The framework that governs the .au domain was last reviewed 16 years ago and since that time the digital landscape has changed significantly.

We will release a discussion paper shortly and will consult with industry and the community on the best management framework for the domain. The review will also examine future risks and mitigation strategies for the security of the domain.

The Government expects the review to be finalised in early 2018.
