Our latest work on leading indicators (LIs) shows Australians are increasingly accessing government data online.

2 March 2015

Releasing the second update on its leading indicators (LIs), the Head of the Bureau of Communications Research (BCR) Dr Paul Paterson, says there's been an 18 per cent increase in the number of views of published government data over the twelve months to October 2014, and an increase in public access across levels of government.

'Of the top 10 datasets—location data for government services is the most popular—with Medicare and Centrelink offices among the more popular datasets accessed', Dr Paterson said.

'This consumption pattern follows earlier work by the bureau on the number of publicly available datasets on data.gov.au.

'These are important Lis, as they foreshadow much wider use of government data than was possible less than 12 months ago', Dr Paterson said.
