The Bureau of Communications Research (BCR) releases its new online Communications Monitor.

The Bureau of Communications Research (BCR) has released its Communications Monitor to provide a consolidated snapshot of the communications sector in Australia.

Using data and infographics, the Communications Monitor provides an online resource for information and insights relevant to the communications sector, including performance and key economic indicators, such as growth and employment.

Highlights

The communications sector:

·         is a crucial input to essential and highly-valued parts of the economy — it mainly supports the following sectors: finance; professional, scientific and technical services; government; and wholesale and retail trade

·         has high returns to labour – the average worker earns more than the all-industries average and labour productivity has more than doubled over the past two decades

·         output in the sector is dominated by telecommunications, followed by publishing and broadcasting, and

·         business activity is concentrated in urban areas and is dominated by small and micro businesses.
