The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released data on how Australians use and access the internet in 2018.

The Internet Activity report found that Australians downloaded 3.8 million terabytes of data in the three months ending 30 June 2018. That’s a 28.1 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2017. 
Fixed line broadband accounted for 96.8 per cent of all internet downloads in the three months ending 30 June 2018.
Other highlights include:

  • At the end of June 2018, there were 14.5 million internet subscribers
  • Between December 2017 and June 2018, fibre connections grew by 22.4 per cent
  • There were about 27 million mobile handset subscribers in Australia as of June 2018
  •  Australians are downloading more on their mobiles. 246,765 terabytes were downloaded in the three months ending June 2018
