The Government has passed historic changes to Australia’s media laws—the largest reforms in nearly three decades.
The reforms are set to better position Australian media companies in the 21st century market by providing better opportunities to compete with large online media outlets.
The package will strengthen and diversify our media industry and support local journalism jobs in regional areas across the country.
Australian broadcasters are facing increasing hardship due to an industry evolving with online technologies. The reform package will assist by providing significant and permanent financial relief.
The Government will also implement a $60 million Regional and Small Publishers Jobs and Innovation package as part of the reforms.
The reforms to Australia’s media laws are part of the Government’s broader Broadcast and Content Reform package to strengthen the industry.
