Running from the 8 October to 14 October 2018, Stay Smart Online Week is a reminder to us all to stay smart online.

8 October 2018

This year's theme is 'Together we can reverse cybercrime'.

In 2017, more than 6 million Australians experienced cybercrime and the numbers are rising. This is a global issue and it is important we put in place ways to protect ourselves and help others from cybercrime.

Stay Smart Online Week is a time to address these issues and raise awareness of the impacts cybercrime can have on our communities and businesses.

Here are some tips to help prevent cybercrime:

  • Use strong and different passwords for your accounts, and use two-factor authentication
  • Make sure you update your software - new updates can include extra security
  • Be careful before connecting to public Wi-Fi. Consider if you need to access banking and emails on public Wi-Fi
  • Phishing is one of the most common cybercrimes. If an email or text message looks suspicious, do not click any links or open attachments.
