Discussion paper: Do Not Call Register Statutory Review
Established in May 2007, the Do Not Call Register allows Australians to opt out of receiving unsolicited commercial marketing (telemarketing) calls by listing their fixed line and mobile telephone numbers used primarily for private or domestic purposes.
Section 45 of the Do Not Call Register Act 2006 (the Act) required a review of the Act and relevant provisions of the Telecommunications Act 1997 before, or as soon as possible after, May 2010. On 6 October 2009, the Department released a discussion paper seeking public comment on the key provisions of the Act and the key operational aspects of the scheme.
Submissions closed on 4 November 2009 and the report was tabled in Parliament on 29 September 2010. The submissions received are available on this website.
